  • When using the Record Media tool in the Rich Content Editor keep in mind that it works best when using the Chrome browser.
  • Use PicMonkey, Links to an external site. a free online image editor that doesn't require an account, to crop, resize or perform other edits to an image before uploading to using the Content Selector.

Adding Dynamic and Rich Content

As instructors, we want our courses to be dynamic and rich with content, not just text, but rich media, videos, equations and more! Canvas has a simple, yet powerful, WYSIWYG editor. The Rich Content Editor is available when creating: announcements, assignments, discussions, pages, quizzes, and a syllabus. Using the Rich Content Editor, users can:
  • Format text
  • Create links to course content such as pages, files, quizzes, or modules, as well as link to outside content such as a webpage. 
  • insert a math equation.
  • Record audio or video.
  • Find and embed an image from Flickr.
  • Upload and embed images.
  • Insert a table.
  • Paste in embedding code or input HTML directly using the HTML Editor link Links to an external site..
  • Access Externals Apps such as Khan Academy, YouTube, Google Drive, C-K12, and Graph Builder and embed content from these sources.

Content Selector

Users can also easily link to course content using the Content Selector Links to an external site.. Users can link to any file, image or page that they have created in Canvas through the Content Selector. The Content Selector is displayed in the sidebar anytime the Rich Content Editor is open. Users can also upload new course files and images through the Content Selector.
